Concussions and Sports

Recently on the Health First Radio show that airs every Monday at 1pm on CFIS 93.1 Fm here in Prince George I had the opportunity to talk with Dr Margaret Goodman a Las Vegas neurologist and the founder and chair of the Voluntary Anti Doping Association.  Dr Goodman has recent written a novel titled Death in Las Vegas which is loosely based on her years as a ringside Doctor for Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts.

In the interview Dr Goodman talked on the necessity for parents to be aware of the sports that their kids are in and the long term effects on their health.  She stated that sports like boxing, martial arts, soccer, basketball, football and other sports where head injuries are common that parents need to determine when enough is enough and need to be present at practices and games when possible to monitor the health of their children.  Dr Goodman said that she has seen too many athletes injured because coaches push too much and are unqualified in many areas.
