Sage (Sativia officinalis) is a fragrant silvery-green plant found growing in regions around the Mediterranean and more recently throughout North America. For thousands of years Sage has been used for a variety of culinary and medicinal purposes. However aside from the kitchen, Sage is probably best known for its unique ability to help control excessive sweating and perspiration. For this reason sage has become well-known for its ability to help reduce some of the unpleasant symptoms of menopause.
Menopause is a normal and natural event and marks the end of the reproductive phase of a woman̥s life. In a recent clinical trial 71 menopausal women taking sage leaf tablets for 8 weeks showed a remarkable decrease in both the frequency and intensity of hot flashes. By the end of the 8 weeks, the overall severity of hot flashes was reduced by 64%, and the number of mild, moderate, severe and very severe hot flashes was reduced by 46%, 62%, 79% and 100% respectively after 8 weeks.3
